Presenter: Carissa Lopez-Bockus, MS, LMHC

Presenter Bio: Carissa Lopez-Bockus is a licensed mental health counselor whose background involves clinical practice in community, non-profit, and private practice settings. Currently she is practicing as a licensed mental health counselor at Shepherd Community Center, a non-profit organization located in the Near Eastside of Indianapolis, IN, where she serves children through adults. She currently serves as the President of Indiana Counseling Association and is an active member of the American Counseling Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. 

Brief Description: Play therapy has been proven to be an effective and evidence-based practice for a wide array of mental and emotional problems (including treating trauma, anger, ADHD, attachment issues). Although play therapy is primarily utilized with children and adolescents, in studies done with adults, play therapy has also been useful and effective. 

Learning Objectives: 

Participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the importance of play as a therapeutic technique to utilize with children and adolescents.
  2. Gain knowledge about the development of play therapy and over views of specific branches of play therapy: solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, Theraplay and prescriptive play therapies.
  3. Learn considerations for integrating play therapy techniques into clinical practices, including choosing play interventions and material selection. 
  4. Review multicultural considerations for the use of play therapy with diverse populations. 


This is a live webinar event, $5 for members and $10 for non-members. 1 continuing education credit is available for attending this session. This live webinar will be recorded.
